Symptoms of E.coli
After a person is infected with E.coli, the symptoms begin to be evident within a week or so. The initial sign is severe cramps in the abdomen that can come about rather suddenly. After a few hours have passed, there develops watery diarrhea which makes the body lose fluids as well as electrolytes, thereby causing dehydration. Soon the patient will feel tired and sick. This watery diarrhea continues for around a day. Then the diarrhea begins to change into bright red stools. The Escherichia coli infection develops sores in the intestines making the stools real bloody and this bloody diarrhea continues for 2 – 5 days. The E.coli attack might make the patient have 10 or so bowel movements per day. The diarrhea might be accompanied by mild or no fever. The disease can cause vomiting or nausea too. In case you have any of the symptoms like watery and bloody diarrhea, fever, nausea, vomiting and cramps, consult a doctor immediately.
